Coding Interview Time Management
Most campus coding rounds allow 30–45 minutes per problem. Time allocation separates hires from near-misses.
Suggested split (45 min)
- 0–5 min: Repeat problem, examples, edge cases
- 5–12 min: Brute force + optimized approach
- 12–35 min: Clean implementation
- 35–45 min: Test cases + complexity analysis
Signals interviewers want
- Early communication before silent coding
- Willingness to accept hints without ego
- Structured debugging when tests fail
Practice
Use timer on LeetCode medium problems. Stop at 35 minutes even if unfinished — review solution, add pattern to mistake log.
See DSA interview guide for pattern priorities.
